Discovering and loving these traditional Danish open faced sandwiches. Originally known as smør og brød which loosely translates as butter on bread, each of these decidedly fancy toppings sit on top of a thin slice of buttered rugbrød, a delicious dense yet fluffy rye bread filled with seeds. There’s chicken salad with apple, mushroom, crispy bacon and gem lettuce, pumpkin with kale and almonds, and crumbed plaice with prawn, lemon, picked tomatoes and micro greens. All washed down with a glass (or two) of akvavit. Can’t wait to recreate these when I get home. #thepaddingtonfoodie #copenhagenfood #smørrebrød #danishfood #rugbrød #sandwichlove #opensandwichOn the hunt for cinnamon scrolls. We didn’t have to search too hard or too long to find this delicious little bakery in Jægersborggade already decked out for Christmas. Some are quirky like the chocolate coated potato crisps in Hokkaido, Japan and now this...a deep fried chicken wing and donut replete with sunglasses 😎 at the Texas State Fair. Thanks for sharing Matt. #thepaddingtonfoodie #bigredchickenbread #texasstatefair #quirkyfood #wishiwasthereAn early impromptu birthday celebration. Highlight of our long lazy lunch? A whole free-range roast chicken with spring onion and sugar snaps with sides of roasted carrots, salsa verde and chips. #thepaddingtonfoodie #chiswickwoollahra #inmyneighbourhood #sydneyfood #longlazylunch #roastchickenThis morning I had the pleasure of picking up my very first Sift Produce box from Fred’s in Paddington. So excited to return home and find new season broadbeans in my bounty. Time for a Spring inspired broadbean and pea bruschetta with pecorino and mint. Can’t wait. I’ve long been an advocate of sustainability and low food miles and was delighted to meet the gorgeous Georgie Neal. Her produce boxes are sourced directly from small local farms, the majority of whom use organic &/or biodynamic practices. Today’s box courtesy of NSW farms - four in the Hawkesbury and one each in the Southern Highlands and Orange. Love your passion and authenticity Georgie. #thepaddingtonfoodie #siftproduce #georgieneal #inmyneighbourhood #producebox #supportlocalproducers #lowfoodmiles #organic #biodynamicfood #sydneyfoodAnother charming stop. Good old fashioned country hospitality and wonderful gourmet produce. Looking forward to our 2 day stay at #theprovincialballarat Adore the luxe bright and breezy feel of our suite and it’s hard to beat in-house dining at #lolaballarat. Comfort food for those times I can neither face the kitchen nor rustle up the energy to put my glad rags on. #thepaddingtonfoodie #inmyneighbourhood #pho #sydneyfoodblogA delicious alternative to hot cross buns. Swedish Semla. My new addiction. Cardamom buns filled with soft almond paste and freshly whipped cream. Traditionally, the origins of Semla can be traced back to fettisdag ~ Fat Tuesday ~ when these buns were eaten as a last celebratory feast before the beginning of fasting throughout Lent. Luckily for me they’re no longer a once a year indulgence. With Shrove Tuesday just around the corner, it’s pancakes and Semla for me. #thepaddingtonfoodie #semla #inmyneighbourhood #secretsydney #swedishmoments #funkisköket
